Shane isn’t in bed next to me when I wake up in the morning.

It shouldn’t be a surprise. Last night was just a gesture. Still, my heart sinks as deep as the depression he’s left in the mattress.

... Always alone.

Rolling out of bed, I wobble to my feet. My legs are surprisingly unsteady, and I have to grab onto the bedpost just to keep from tumbling back down onto my ass.

What the hell is wrong with me?

Then, suddenly, I realize that it’s not me.

The yacht.

It’s moving.

It only takes a single glance towards the bedroom window to confirm it. Light blue waves swirl around the glass as we move at a fast pace through the ocean.

For a moment, I’m engulfed in a warm cover of nostalgia. The sun shines outside and I can practically feel it on my skin. Same goes for the salty sea water, which I can almost smell.

This is just like old times.

But just as quickly as I lose myself to the past, I snap back to the present.

No. This isn’t anything like those carefree teenage days.

Shane and I slept together last night. That would have been a dream back then. Now, it’s teetering on a nightmare.

He’s my addiction, and he’s not letting me pull away.

Turning from the window, I look towards the bedroom door. It’s closed. I’m still locked in. A prisoner to the man I once thought I would do anything to be with.

A heavy breath fills me with melancholy.

What now?

Last night was filled with so much temptation. Still, I somehow managed to fall asleep. Even then, though, my dreams were dirty and my imagination throbbed with every deep breath taken by the monster laying in bed next to me.

I woke up with a craving to feel his arms around me again.

How dangerous.

How disappointing.

Walking to the bathroom, I notice that the closet door is open ever so slightly. When I open it up, I see that it’s filled with a dazzling array of summer clothes.

At first, a flutter flashes behind my chest. Every outfit looks new.

... Shane bought me an entire new wardrobe.

Then, a knot tightens in my gut.

Every outfit looks hot.

There are no sweatshirts or sweat pants. Only summer dresses and leggings and tank tops.

My master is dressing me up for his viewing pleasure.

And it’s kind of a turn on.

Fuck. It’s still crazy to think that Shane actually bought me.

For thirty million dollars.

That’s even crazier.

I’m rich.

And not like before, either. The Kilpatricks always took care of me. But this is my own money.

The second my contract with Shane is up, I’ll be able to live however I want.

But how do I want to live?

Shane’s already made it clear that he’s not just going to let me drift away into the world and disappear forever. He’ll always be watching.

So, what the hell am I going to do?

“What do you think?”

I jump at the unexpectedness of his voice. When I look back over my shoulder, Shane is standing in the doorway, his ocean blue eyes sparkling under the soft bedroom lights.
